The Tricities are located in the Appalachian mountains, offering many outdoor opportunities for residents. The region is also home to Tennessee's oldest town, historic Jonesborough.
Johnson City is growing at a rapid pace. It is home to East Tennessee State University, an undergraduate university that also offers medical and pharmacy schools. Feeding off of this new crop of medical professionals, two major medical groups are located in the Tri, and continue to bring in a large number of physicans.
Each spring and fall, NASCAR fans descend upon Bristol Motor Speedway, the world's fastest half mile oval.
